What are we working on today?

Piskel – Animation, movement and the principals of animation.

Why is it important?

Learning how to actually incorporate the principals of animation will improve the look and overall quality of your projects.

How will you show you understand? What is the assignment?

First complete your assignment from yesterday on Squash and Stretch. Once we are completed, we will move on to Slow in / Slow Out. Follow along with me as we create a simple car, export it and turn it in THEN create a new animation on your own using the same skills.

YOUR PROJECT WITH ME DOES NOT NEED TO BE A MASTERPIECE! We are working on the technique and then you let you creativity and skill run wild on your personal project.

Once you are finished with both, turn them in (Google Classroom)

This project is worth 1 Point

Step 1

Resize to 1028 Wide x 256 High

You will need to uncheck the Maintain Aspect Ratio because you don’t want a perfect square/

Step 2

Rename your bottom layer (I am calling mine text)

Change your color to white and use the paint bucket to full in your work area

Step 3

We are going to be writing some text so select a color that will pop against the white background so that it is easy to read

Write Slow In / Slow Out

Then create a stop sign on the right

Step 4

Create a NEW LAYER and name it car

With your new CAR layer selected, draw a janky car… QUICKLY! This is practive, you will create your own slow in slow out after this so don’t spend tons of time on this art.

Step 5

Duplicate your first frame

Make sure your onion is selected so you can see the previous frame. This will help you in spacing.

Step 6

With your car layer selected, use the move tool to move the car slightly to the right. Remember, the farther you move the object on the following fram, the laster it will appear your car is going.

Step 7

Repeat this process about three more times so you establish that the car is going slow

Step 8

Duplicate the last frame, select the car layer and move the car an entire car length to extablish that it is now going faster

Step 9

Repeat these steps for three more frames so your animation starts slow and speeds up

Step 10

We have done the slow in, now it is time for the Slow Out

Duplicate the last frame, select the car layer and nudge the car over like you did in step 7

Repeate 5 times or as many as you want to get close to the stop sign

Duplicate the last frame a few times to stop the car

Step 11

Time to bring all the smoke

Let’s help the viewer undewrstand that the car is going fast or slow by adding exhaust and fire

Go to your first frame, choose an exhaust black/gray type color, click your pen tool and select the car layer.

Draw a little exhause coming out of the back

Step 12

Repeat this step for every frame where the car is going slow (at the start and at the end)

Step 13

Change your color to red or orange to show fire coming out of the exhaust to show the viewer the car is going faster in your middle frames
