Start your day with a Warm-up
Read the following article and then be ready to share your thoughts on the GTA Leak with the class. At the workplace, you will usually have lots of opportunities to make small talk with people from every level of employment and all different departments. Being a part of your corporate culture with help you bond and work better with your fellow coworkers. This is a time to work on the skill of disagreement while still working cooperatively. This is a VITAL skill for keeping a job.
Next, we are going to read an email from the CEO aka my boss and look for subcontext. This could be the most important thing you could work on today.
What are we working on today?
Piskel – Animation, movement and the principals of animation.
Why is it important?
Learning how to actually incorporate the principals of animation will improve the look and overall quality of your projects.
How will you show you understand? What is the assignment?
Follow along with me as we create a simple cannon, export it and turn it in THEN create a new animation on your own using the same skills.
YOUR PROJECT WITH ME DOES NOT NEED TO BE A MASTERPIECE! We are working on the technique and then you let you creativity and skill run wild on your personal project.
Once you are finished with both, turn them in (Google Classroom)
This project is worth 1 Point
Step 1
Resize to 256 x 256

Step 2
Rename your bottom layer to something you will remember and create a QUICK cannon. seriously, this doesn’t need to be amazing, we are just working on technique right now.

Step 3
Create a second later and name it, this is the layer we will use to make the wheels look like they are moving.
Use the opposite color that you used for the wheels so that the movement will stand out (so white wheels = black movement)
add two intersecting lines

Step 4
Duplicate your frame and make sure you are on the newest frame (frame 2)
Make sure your Onion Skin is on for reference
Select your bottom layer and move your cannon over slightly. Remember, the farther you move it over, the faster it will appear to be going.

Select new layer you just created (mine is called Wheel Move)
Delete the intersecting lines you drew for the wheel movement and replace them with new ones at a different angle so that when the animation switches frames, the cannon moves and the angle of the intersecting lines change to give the appearance of the wheels rotating
Using the Onion Skin helps you remember which way to make the new lines. Again, this does not have to be perfect, we are practicing!!!

Step 5
Repeat this process until you are about 1/3 across the workspace

This is what mine looks like with 7 frames.
Step 6
We can see that is loops quickly but we want it to stop and fire the cannon. In order to have it stop and do nothing for a moment, we want to duplicate the last frame for as long as we want it to remain still. I am doing to duplicate it a few more times.

Now we can see the frames where the cannon does not move.
Step 7
Duplicate the last frame
Create a new layer for your cannonball
With the cannonball layer selected, create a ball coming out of the cannon. MAKE IT SIMPLE!!! This is practice
If you want, add some spark elements like orange, yellow and red dots

Step 8
Duplicate the last frame
Move the ball layer out a little and add more sparks

Step 9
Oh no, we forgot to add the target!
Let’s add it now!
Create a new layer and name it.
Create a Target in the path of your ball.

We have a problem, the Target is only on the last frame so it is not visible the entire animation.
With our Target later selected, we can use the selection tool to copy the Target from the last frame and paste it in each frame individually
Notice it pastes in the same spot each time so it looks static

Step 10
Now what we have the Target, we will get back to the ball
With the last frame selected, and on your Ball Layer, duplicate your frame again, moving the ball and erasing some of the sparks
Repeat again (duplicate frame, move ball and delete all the sparks)

Step 11 – Time to squash and stretch
Duplicate your last frame and move the ball towards the target
With your eraser tool, shave some of the top and bottom then all more to the sides so that the ball is oval (try to keep the same amount of volume inside so that whatever you removed from the top and bottom is added to the left and right like a football shape)

Step 12 – Repeat till you get to the bullseye

We have a problem with our layers!
The the ball is going behind the Target.
To fix this, all we need to do is move the Target Layer under the ball. Remember, layers work just like a stack on pancakes

Step 13
Duplicate the last frame
Make the ball gradually become rounds again through frames
Step 14 – On your own
Try to make the ball look like slime running down the target
