September 21

It’s time!

You have proved you have the chops to create a GOOD level with SMBX and now it’s time to make some educational software!

Start your day with a warm-up

Today we are going to watch every person play their level live.

What this means is that you will literally stand around and watch/cheer on the game dev while they showcase their level.

While people are watching you play: you are to explain why you chose this NPC/Puzzle/Boss/Whatever

I want you to put real thought into this

While you are watching someone play: This is NOT your opportunity to bash someone, this is your opportunity to help someone create a better game and become a better game developer. If the level seems too easy, too difficult, doesn’t make sense or just an idea on how they might be able to improve their level.

We are not in competition with each other, we are working on creating the greatest freeware educational game ever made by students. I am not kidding!

After going through all the games, go back to your game and review/make any updates that made sense when you were playing it live. We often get so wrapped up in the creation that something makes sense to us because we have been working on it so long but to someone viewing for the first time it is odd. We want the best product, you are not obligated to make changes but why not try and improve before we start testing with real children.

What are we working on today?

Creating Educational Software based on SMBX

Why is it important?

You are creating a real game that will be used in the real world by real students in the 5th biggest school district in California.

What is the assignment? How will I show I understand?

Now that you have experience with the SMBX game engine, you are to use the best ideas you came up with in your previous work and create the one minute masterpiece based on the vocabulary word.

Requirements

Include the word at least 5 times in your game

Define the word somewhere in the game

Make the level easy enough but fun enough so that the player can continue

Include a quiz at the end

Elementary School Appropriate!

Give me your best because the kids deserve it!

Your game will be due on Tuesday FIRST THING!
