September 11 - CARTGAMER

Today is a weird day. I recognize that you were not even born when the attacks happened so it is unfortunate history. If you would indulge me, I will tell you my firsthand experience from that day. I was working in public relations and advertising at the Flamingo Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. My wife was getting ready for work and the television was on while I was slowly waking up. She was in the bathroom fixing her hair and I saw the tower being shown on the television. I didn’t really pay much attention other than noticing a building was on fire. I glance over again and see parts of the building falling. I didn’t know a plane had hit the tower, it had already happened but seeing the pieces of the tower fall made me realize this was something real bad. I call to my wife and tell get to come check out the television. As she came over, the second plane hit. We were stunned, horrified and scared. It was the first jobs we had out of college and we were living in another state. We went to work and the entire casino floor was empty! Not one person, it was crazy. Every single person outside of their hotel room was in the Sports Book where they had tons of big screen TVs for the horse racing and sports betting.

I don’t want to pontificate or go into a weird unc rant so i will end the story there but it was one of those events where I know precisely where I was when it happened.

NOW THEN!

You came into the class as entry level employees. I showed your how to use the tools, we put together a complete level with layers and events. We went over creating the world and some mods. Then you all went hard and created a cool first level. NOW IS YOUR TIME! Now I get off your back, you have shown me that you understand the tools and now you get to create and pour your soul into creating something so cool out of something so simple.

Flags are another way to modify your game

Storyboarding allows you to actually put together a plan rather than just freestyling. It also help you actually get an early idea of transitions and what will not work before you put in the effort BUT freestyle is cool as well.

Creating your world is really packaging your game.

All the stuff we do in SMBX actually transitions nicely to Gdevelop

You have created the first level of your game and you didn’t even know it. You are to create a new world with four levels.

Get a sheet of graph paper and storyboard one of your levels just like you read in the article.

Once you have created the world with your four levels, I am going to ask you to use the best ideas you came up with in your world and create the one minute masterpiece based on a vocabulary word.

Land level – at least 3 minutes of game play and include layers and events – 2 pts

Water Level at least 3 minutes of game play and include layers and events – 2 pts

Air Level – at least 3 minutes of game play and include layers and events – 2 pts
